so lovely.
“You’re perfect,” she whispers into him. His hands come up and pull the ribbons off her shoulders with such gentleness her heart stops for a moment.
“Happy New Year, love.”
Fireworks explode outside the window.
Just wanted to let you all know that I’m leaving tomorrow for vacation until the 10th. I haven’t had time to set up a queue, but I will have internet access where I’m going and will most likely post at least once or twice while I’m there.
See you in a week!
Prompt:
Any of Romione, Jily or Hinny, where the Harry/Hermione/Lily takes Ginny/Ron/James to the movies :D

“We have to paythe Muggles money to see moving pictures? ALL pictures in the wizarding world move!”
“Oh, hush, it’ll be fun,” Hermione tutted at a flabbergasted Ron as she dragged him down the street toward the Muggle theater. “A real date!”
Luckily, Hermione didn’t see Ron roll his eyes, otherwise she might have socked him. Ron continued to grumble as Hermione quickly shoved the money at the attendant and received the tickets.
They seemed to be the only people in the theater as they entered, Hermione still holding tightly onto Ron’s hand. Hermione led the way to the middle of the room, selecting two seats with the best views.
“Now, we just sit and relax and enjoy the film. Doesn’t that sound lovely?”
Ron was still not entirely sure he understood or liked the concept of a film, but he at least wanted to attempt to make Hermione happy, so he slipped his hand in hers and squeezed it tightly as the film began.
An hour or so later, the lights came on in the theater and a startled Ron pulled his lips away from Hermione.
“It’s over already?”
“Yes,” Hermione said, her cheeks flushing. “I suppose it is.”
“I rather like these Muggle movies,” Ron said as he kissed her hand. “Can we come back next weekend?”
“I’m also supposed to be standing aren’t I? And I’m not supposed to know what you’re going to do… James… I have never, ever done what I’m supposed to do, or been what I’m supposed to be,” she laughed, wiping away tears again as he moved closer. “What makes you think I’d start now?”
“A man can…
Nice one shot with angsty!jealous! James. I enjoyed reading this a lot.
As she stepped under the cloak, he laughed quietly. “Yup. This is the secret to the Marauders’ success. I think we might as well induct you as an honorary member.” He reached for her hand and began to walk back to the main road, towards Hogwarts. Sticking close to her, squeezing her hand, he whispered into her ear, “Thanks for a perfect day, perfect Lily. I love you.” As they walked up into the grounds, passing Hagrid’s hut, James pulled out the map to check where everyone was. “I think it’s almost dinner time. You want to go into the Great Hall?” He wrapped his arm around her waist as a cool breeze passed. She fitted against him perfectly, and he knew that she knew it.
Lily smiled to herself, her cheeks flushing with colour. Today had been perfect. She couldn’t remember ever having having as much fun as she had today with James. As he pulled her in close and wrapped his arm around her waist, Lily took a moment to appreciate how perfectly their bodies fit together, as though they were made for each other. It didn’t matter if they were standing, sitting, or lying down, her and James’ bodies always somehow fit together as though they were two halves of a whole. As she nodded to his question, Lily layed her head on his shoulder. “I love you too,” she murmured. Merlin, did she love him like nothing else.
I cannot BELIEVE my little drabble got 29 notes in half a day! That’s a first for me, so thanks everyone! I really have enjoyed writing drabbles from the prompts you’ve submitted, so I’ll definitely be doing this again. I still have a a few more to write, so I’ll be working on them throughout the week :)
chairmanmeows is the author of a new Jily fic that is, so far, really interesting: The Art of Timing. Go read it! Her drabbles are also adorable.
Until then, she was gracious enough to answer some questions!
Q: What advice to you have for other writers?
A: I am far from being an expert, believe me, but the best thing to do is write. If an idea comes to you the best thing to do is write it down as soon as possible. Even if its in the simplest language, you can always come back and fix it. The idea of writing while you’re inspired isn’t a realistic concept - nobody can be inspired all of the time! If we only wrote when we were inspired, nobody would get any work done for years. What is important is that you write your idea down while you’re excited about it, then work on the technicality and structure of it when you’re not. Carry something with you to write in whenever and wherever you get an idea - you wouldn’t believe how many notes I have stashed on my phone.
Q: Where do you get your inspiration? What do you think about before writing?
A: The bus. When I’m riding the bus to University and back home, I’m constantly getting ideas. The shower is a pretty good place to think as well. I pay a lot of attention to my dreams too.
Q: What are some things you look for when reading other people’s writing? What, to you, makes a good fan fic?
A: Development! I’m probably being a hypocrite right now, but I love a good story where you can really see the development in the character relationships. It can be a little difficult with fanfiction, especially if the characters you’re using have a strong personality in the actual canon story, but one of my pet peeves is characters going from hating one another to jumping each other’s bones in the space of half a chapter.
Q: What was going through your head when you started writing The Art of Timing?
A: Honestly? Probably “How the heck am I going to write a convincing point of view for Lily?” The characterization of Lily and James is something I’m so anxious and self-conscious about. But other than that, it was the idea that everything in life depends on timing.
Q: . What is your favorite pairing/story topic to read?
A: Recently, I’ve become really into James/Lily stories. Stories that involve the First Wizarding War as my favourite. I’m a big, big, big Marauder lover. Also, fantasy stories are my life. Things like The Mortal Instruments really interest me.
